Practice Spells

Practice spells are used to raise your magic level faster than you would with normal use. With practice spells even characters with a very low magic skill can begin to raise their magic level with little effort. In order to be able to make spells, you must be a member of the Mages Guild. When you join, they will give you access to the Spell Maker.

For all practice spells the Duration, Magnitude, and Chance should all be left as 1+1. The 'per level bonus' should be raised until the price of the spell is at it's lowest (for most spells that should only need to be at 2 or 3). The spell points required for the spell will varry depending on your level in the applicable School of Magic that the spell is from, and overall spell cost will depend on your rank in the guild. As long as you follow the (1+1 per 2 Levels) scheme you should end up with a spell that will build your skills using a limited amount of spell points.

The suggested spell 'recipes' below are designed to let you build your skill in all six schools of magic, while only having to cast two spells. To build only one spell skill at a time you can create the spell with only one of the listed effects. In order to achieve a skill increase you must cast a certain number of times. How much you will have to cast depends on your characters difficulty in leveling. For low level skills, casting a single spell 20-30 times should be enough, but this number will rise as your skill rises. For my character w/ magic skill levels in the 80's I end up casting up to 150 times before I get a level increase (this is where spell absorption comes in, since I never run out of spell points while practicing).

Keep in mind when making these spells that we don't care what they do, they will not be used for their effect, only for their value in gaining skills.

Characters With Spell Absorption

Multiple Target At Range Characters with spell absorption should make their spells to cast at Multiple Targets At Range. This will allow you to cast against a wall or other solid surface and never loose any spell points. This is very benificial in that you can gain a skill level each time you rest after casting. The cost to make the spell will be higher, but the gain is well worth it.

Characters Without Spell Absorption

Single Target At Range Characters without spell absorption should make their spells to cast at a single target. Don't select 'by touch' or you will never be able to properly cast the spell.
